Fractions, decimals and percentages, made clear one step at a time

Three friendly workbooks for ages 7 to 11 that take children from sharing a pizza fairly to working out sale prices and reading pie charts. Start with Fractions, move on to Decimals, then finish with Percentages, each book building on the one before.

The three Fractions, Decimals and Percentages workbook covers: Book 1 Fractions, Book 2 Decimals and Book 3 Percentages.

Built on the National Curriculum, from Year 1 to Year 6

Every unit is mapped to the year in which the National Curriculum for England teaches it, so children meet each idea in the right order. The same skills underpin the maths in 7+, 8+, 11+ and ISEB entrance tests.

The Fractions, Decimals and Percentages series

Fractions, decimals and percentages are three ways of describing the same thing: part of a whole. This series teaches them in that order. Each unit opens with a picture and a short story, then How To boxes show every step, Try It With Help gives a first go, and activities grow gradually harder. Summary Exercises and a Final Test check progress along the way.

About the Fractions, Decimals and Percentages books

A three-book series for children aged 7 to 11, covering the fractions, decimals and percentages content of the National Curriculum from Year 1 to Year 6. The books work at home or in class, and suit children preparing for 7+, 8+, 11+ and ISEB entrance tests as well as those who simply need more confidence with this part of maths.

  • One step at a time

Key Facts boxes, Key Words and How To worked examples show every step before children try it themselves, first with help and then on their own.

  • Maths in everyday life

Each unit opens with a picture and a short story: pizza night, the bakery, the market stall, the corner shop, the bike-shop sale, a class survey.

  • Practice that builds

Activities grow gradually harder. Units and questions marked CHALLENGE cover Year 5 and 6 content, so confident children are stretched.

  • Progress you can see

30-mark Summary Exercises, a 50-mark Final Test, a My Progress page, a glossary and a certificate of completion in every book.

Where to start

Begin with Book 1: Fractions and work through the books in order. Book 2 links decimals back to the fractions children met in Book 1, and Book 3 links percentages to both. Within each book, the units build on one another, so it is best to work through them in order too. Children who are already confident can use the Curriculum Map at the front of each book to find the right starting unit.

The books suit: children aged 7 to 11; families preparing for 7+, 8+, 11+ or ISEB tests; teachers and tutors looking for a structured fractions, decimals and percentages course.
